JEAN ST. JEAN (cont.): I came to the toy industry first as a collector. The combination of classic hero with monsters and the occult drew me to Spawn immediately. I started sculpting on my own and eventually found an apprenticeship as a moldmaker/sculptor at a doll studio. At night I worked on improving my skills and applying everything I learned that day. Leafing through the back pages of Spawn one night,I found my salvation from huggy baby dolls and nauseatingly sweet fashion dolls, in an ad for sculptors.

After sending in a portfolio to Ed Frank (President of the Design Group), I got my first project sculpting the Medusa figure from the Curse of Spawn line. On completion, Ed offered me an in-house position. That was three and a half years ago. Since then I've worked very closely with Ed and his brother Andy (Vice-President Design Group/Creative Director McFarlane Toys) to achieve Todd's singular vision of what an action figure should be.
