Bonds Nears Record, Todd Embarks on Media Tour

64, 65, 66, 67... The home run clock keeps ticking as San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds lays waste to the Major League record books and sets his sights on Mark McGwire's home run record of 70. With nine games remaining as of Friday, Sept. 28, Bonds has 67 dingers.

With every crack of Barry's bat, public -- and consequently media -- interest in Todd McFarlane, aka the guy who bought the $3 million ball, has increased. On Monday, Sept. 24, it reached the boiling point following Bonds' two-home run performance on Sunday. The phones started ringing at the headquarters Monday morning. Since then, Todd has handled inquiries from media including ESPN Radio and, Fox Sports, local and national TV and radio, Howard Stern, USA Today and more.

And, while all this has kept Todd busy, it's allowed him to address how his perspective has changed in light of the events of Sept. 11.

"Before the terrorist attacks, we were just trying to have fun with the home run race," said Todd, who purchased McGwire's 70th home run baseball in January 1999. "Now, I'm really taking a different tack because of what happened, mixing a little fun, a little business. The status of my 'investment' is not nearly as important as what has happened in America, especially if what Bonds is doing can give people something positive to dwell on. His efforts really show what the American mind can do when it's focused."

Todd will be heading to New York City on Monday, Oct. 1, with scheduled stops at the Today Show, Bloomberg News and ESPNews. Several other shows are considering him for an appearance. Stay tuned to for media updates.
