Another year, another San Diego Comic-Con. The McFarlane Companies made their annual trek to San Diego last week, offering the opportunity for an overwhelming number of fans and curious passers-by to catch a glimpse at a number of our upcoming products and projects.

The event started with a lot of excitement, as the usually steady Preview Night was more crowded than ever, as the masses flooded onto the convention center floor for their first taste of the pop culture explosion that is Comic-Con. Greeting everyone at the McFarlane booth was everything from action figures to comics and music videos -- not to mention the handful of staffers ready to converse with fans, collectors and casual observers about any and all items related to the various McFarlane Companies.

Highlighting the event, Todd McFarlane returned to the show for the second year in a row and held marathon-signing sessions on both Saturday and Sunday. Sandwiched between the signing, Todd also held his much-anticipated discussion panel in which he went over the details of a number of in-the-works projects for toys, comics and entertainment.

Here, for those of you who missed the big show, is a quick rundown of what went down during the four-days (plus a Preview Night) of Comic-Con 2006:

* Fans were given their first look at the prototypes for our first line of action figures based on ABC's hit televisions series, Lost. On display at the McFarlane booth were all six figures from Series 1 (Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley, Charlie and Shannon), as well as the boxed set of the mysterious "hatch."

We were also lucky enough to have several members of the show's creative team (actors -- Jorge Garcia and Daniel Dae Kim, executive producers Damon Lindelof, Carlton Cuse and Bryan Burk) stop by the booth for their first in-person peek at the prototypes.

* The unveiling of Spawn Series 30: The Adventures of Spawn
Showcasing a new take on the Spawn mythos, Series 30 was created using a sleek, "cartoony" style that varies from the traditional, hyper-detailed Spawn action figures.

Set to be expanded upon by an exclusive online comic book, The Adventures of Spawn received a very positive response by those in attendance and looks to be a hit among fans both old and new.

Attendees also got their very first glimpse of a number of other new McFarlane Toys products, including;

* Hanna-Barbera Series 2 and The Simpsons: "The Island of Dr. Hibbert" deluxe boxed set.

Free stuff is always popular at Comic-Con, and we had plenty of "swag" to give away. Our Friday-Sunday Spawn Manga giveaway was a huge hit; giving volumes 1-3 each day, our limited daily supply of 200 disappeared as soon as 15 minutes after the doors opened. Our two limited-edition posters featuring the much-anticipated double-sided Spawn: Godslayer, Spawn and the Spawn/Batman were equally as popular, with Todd signing numerous prints during his signing on Saturday and most of the day Sunday.

From camera crews to interviews, McFarlane Toys received its fair share of national media coverage at this year's Comic-Con. Not even our own staff members could fit into our booth as a media frenzy erupted to watch Lost cast members and producers see 2-ups of our Lost figures for the first time. CNN, G4, TV Guide, IGN, ABC Family, ESPN and national wire services were there -- to name a few.

As we're sure most of you know by now, it is hard to predict what Todd will do next. During the McFarlane panel at this year's Con, fans were able to get a sneak peak of what we have coming up. Pictures of MLB 16, NBA Legends 2, Corpse Bride 2, and Spawn 30 were shared -- as well as our second Napoleon Dynamite line, which received the most applause from the crowd. Todd also reviewed upcoming comic projects including the Spawn/Batman crossover.

Afterwards, the Q&A portion of the panel took an interesting spin when Image Comics writer Robert Kirkman stood up in the crowd and asked Todd why he hadn't come out with any new comics besides Spawn. After about 10 minutes of back-and-forth banter, the conversation ended with Kirkman asking Todd to do a book with him.

Comic-Con was a huge success for all things McFarlane, but this year the McFarlane booth had reason to be extra excited about what it had to offer its visitors. Just weeks after the booming debut of Disturbed's "Land of Confusion" music video, Todd McFarlane Entertainment was eager to openly exhibit its latest project to the guests at Comic-Con. The complete video was included as part of the promotion reel played continuously on a widescreen 61-inch plasma TV at the booth, and every 15 minutes, crowds gathered to witness the animated action unfold. Feedback was extremely positive, and "Land of Confusion" was even greeted by a storm of applause after it was played at Todd McFarlane's Saturday afternoon panel.

In addition, our limited edition Disturbed lithograph giveaway was also a great success, and many booth visitors were inspired to take home their souvenir litho after having been floored by the video's intense detail and powerful message.

Thought you missed out on the best Summer had to offer? Sick of the insipid and pervasive Comic-Con references because you weren't fortunate enough to go?

Well, had your interests in mind this past weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con and scoured the show floor for the best giveaway items. We loaded up our plastic bag (a giveaway item in itself, of course, thank you Dark Horse) and began freeloading with the rest of the commoners. Because of our fierce attitude and professional style, we were able to conquer the Comic-Con treasure hunt and brought back so much loot, that we had to check the bag! No, No, we cannot keep it for ourselves; please, please take this off our hands and into your heart.
